New Sounds Live at Brookfield Place 2016
Arts Brookfield
The popular New Sounds Live series, curated by WNYC‘s John Schaefer, offers dynamic music from artists, composers, and traditional musicians. The concert series at Brookfield Place offered three nights of adventurous music. On the first night, The Crossing choir from Philadelphia performed the world premiere of a new commission based around the theory that human speech evolved from birdsong by composer Pete M. Wyer. On the second night, minimalism-driven folk-nuanced music by violinist/composer Sarah Neufeld, with guest instrumentalist Colin Stetson, who might be best known for their work in the band Arcade Fire. On the third night, guitarist Vernon Reid and multi-instrumentalist Laraaji, on zither, filled the vaulting cathedral ceilings with new musical works.
