Led by acclaimed choreographer Sophiline Cheam Shapiro, Khmer Arts Ensemble will perform the New York premiere of A Bend in the River, a contemporary telling of a traditional tale of love, heartbreak, magic, vengeance, consequence and redemption. The stunning production includes a live performance of a richly percussive score by composer Him Sophy and life-sized puppets by sculptor Sopheap Pich, both of whom are internationally known contemporaries of Sophiline’s and who will be featured in other events during the festival. Khmer Arts Ensemble’s appearance at The Joyce marks the opening performance of Season of Cambodia.
